A Career in Welding
As a beginning welder, you can expect to earn from $6.00-$12.00/hr.
On the average, a welder will make $10.00-$15.00/hr., with payscales going
as high as $25.00-$40.00/hr.Graduates from the ECC welding program are
currently working in industry in the St. Louis region as well as out-of-state.
Admission Requirements
Anyone, male or female, who has completed high school or the equivalent
and has been accepted as a student at East Central College may choose welding
as their major.No previous welding experience is necessary to enroll but could
certainly benefit the student. Skills such as manual dexterity and hand-eye
coordination are very advantageous.New classes begin each fall semester.
Enrollment is limited each year, therefore early application and registration
is advised.
ECC's Program
The East Central College Welding Program offers innovative instruction
and individualized guidance for the beginning welder as well as the professional
welder.An enhanced learning environment is generated by mixing classroom instruction
with the latest technical welding processes in the lab. Students have the
opportunity to gain knowledge for a growing career that offers an attractive pay
scale and benefits. Career opportunities include jobs in areas such as production,
maintenance/repair, shipyard, tool and die, pressure vessel, and underwater arc
welding.A variety of degree plans are available through the ECC Welding Program
including a one-year certificate, an advanced certificate and an associate degree
plan.
