Trustees Approve Contract for New President
Dr. Edward D. Jackson Begins Presidency at ECC on July
1
Union, Mo, May 9, 2005: East Central
College trustees approved
a three-year contract for the incoming president of the institution.
The board last month selected Dr. Edward D. Jackson
Jr. to be the college’s fifth president, contingent upon successful
contract negotiations.
Trustees Monday approved a three-year contract
beginning in 2005-06 and running through 2007-08. His salary for 2005-06 will
be $125,000.
Jackson
will begin his term as president on July 1, 2005. He has been president of South Georgia College,
located in Douglas, Georgia, since 1983. South Georgia, founded in 1906, is a two-year college in
the University System of Georgia. Prior to assuming the presidency at South
Georgia, Jackson held the position of dean of
instruction at Tallahassee Community College, Tallahassee, Florida.
Jackson
earned his doctorate in Design and Management of Post-Secondary Education from Florida State University.
He earned his master’s degree in Higher Education and bachelor’s
degree in Political Science, both from the University of Florida.
Jackson
succeeds Dr. Karen Herzog, who has
been president of the college since 1999. Herzog announced in August that she
planned to retire at the end of this academic year. Previous presidents at ECC
include Drs. Donald Shook, Charles Novak, and Dale Gibson.
ECC was founded in 1968. In
addition to the main campus in Union, the
college has facilities in Washington, Sullivan, and Rolla. ECC serves
approximately 3,500 students each year.
