It’s 1968 and almost-eighteen-year old Jane Horn wants to be on the next train out of Colchester, Illinois — if only it stopped there. Meanwhile, the promise of a highway brought people to town, but when the state reneges on that promise, her brother Jack, and unwitting cohort Neal Gamm, decide that the only solution is to secede. To them, it’s all a joke. But when word gets out— the surrounding counties aren’t joking.
Join us for this world premiere musical written by resident music director Colin Healy. Forgottonia looks back on a real-life pseudo-secessionist movement that stayed forgotten in western Illinois while the world was watching hippies and the Vietnam War. This spring, find yourself in Forgottonia— the 51st state that never almost was.
