ECC Establishes Nonprofit

Leadership Institute

East Central College’s Center for Workforce Development, working with the Nonprofit Services Center of St. Louis, has established the Nonprofit Leadership Institute.  The Institute is a support program to enhance and strengthen nonprofit organizations throughout the college service region.

"The College and Nonprofit Services Center believe that nonprofit organizations are an integral piece in the development of communities that sustain and enrich the lives of the people within them,” said Gretchen Pettet, executive director of ECC’s Center for Workforce Development.  “With the establishment of the Institute we plan to provide workshops, roundtable sessions, community forums, networking and other activities to help nonprofit professionals and board members enhance their individual and organizational performance."

Pettet noted that one of the goals in establishing the NPLI is to help build sustainable organizations that can navigate through economically turbulent and technologically challenging times.

Membership for an organization is $600.  That fee includes six preregistrations for any of the three-hour training sessions, a single preregistration in the three day grant writing workshop, an organizational advisement/coaching session, participation in the quarterly Executive Director Roundtables, participation in the semi-annual board member forums and a reduced fee for additional attendees in NPLI coursework available through East Central's CWD.

"Nonmember organizations can participate in a pay as you go model and build their own ala carte training and networking plan,” Pettet said.  “Individual pricing for nonmembers will be $60 per training session, $325 for the three-day grant writing workshop, $150 to participate in the Executive Director Roundtables and $150 to participate in the board member forums."

"We are grateful to the entities that have partnered with us to launch this initiative," stated Pettet.  “The Franklin County Area United Way and Nonprofit Services Center have been invaluable resources, as have the Economic Development Center based out of ECC’s Business Department.”  Pettet noted that financial assistance has been provided by the Rotary Club of Washington and the ECC Foundation.

Upcoming workshop topics will focus on developing fund raising strategies, social media, volunteer program management, employee performance management and board engagement.

Pre-registration is required and membership forms are available at:
