East Central College will host an Information Session on careers in the health field Friday morning, August 31, at the Union campus.  Individuals who want to learn more about training programs related to health care as well as the admissions process are encouraged to attend the 10 a.m. session.

Sarah Havens, coordinator of the Health Career Transitions program at ECC, noted that the session is designed to introduce potential students to the opportunities available in the health care and services industry.  Career exploration and an individual skills assessment will be discussed.

"Through the Missouri Health WINs grant, East Central will be able to help students develop the math, reading and writing skills needed to be successful in the health care industry," Havens said.  "Through this program we also want to acquaint students with health care organizations and professionals in the field so they have an understanding of what is required to be successful prior to even starting classes."  Havens stated that tuition waivers may be available to some students through the MOHealthWINs grant.

Since space is limited at the August 31 event, people wanting to attend should contact Havens at 636-584-6659.  Anyone attending should bring a current driver's license or government issued ID.

MOHealthWINs is a U.S. Department of Labor´s grant-funded program to serve Trade Act participants as well as veterans, unemployed and underemployed individuals, and low-skilled persons in Missouri.  MoHealthWINs supports training activities in health services/health sciences career pathways throughout the state.  East Central College and 12 other two-year institutions are participating in MoHealthWINs.
