Area companies looking to train workers in the upcoming fiscal year are encouraged to start working now on proposals to request training funds.  Eligible companies may apply throughout the year, though applications submitted by June 11, 2012, will be given first consideration for available funds.

The Business & Industry Services office of East Central College’s Center for Workforce Development partners with the State of Missouri to provide economic development resources. This year ECC is working with eight companies to access customized training dollars from the state through the Missouri Job Development Fund, totaling $230,250.

The Missouri Customized Training Program is designed to assist for-profit companies with training Missouri workers to meet the increased demands of technology, quality, and productivity while focusing on job creation and retention, capital investment and wages. Assistance may be available for classroom training costs such as curriculum development, instructional salaries, and training materials.

Types of eligible industries generally include manufacturing; advanced manufacturing, biotechnology/life sciences, information technology, warehouse/distribution operations, headquarter operations and related industries which provide a majority of their goods and services outside the region/state.

For non-manufacturers, companies must be engaged in interstate commerce, providing a majority of their goods and/or services outside the economic region.

ECC is the Local Education Agency that administers this yearly funded program within an eight county service region.

The Center for Workforce Development is also certified by ACT as a WorkKeys assessment center and can help individuals achieve their National Career Readiness Certificate. The NCRC is a product that benefits job seekers and is used for screening, hiring and promotion; as well as for fulfilling training needs for existing employees.
