As people go through their annual spring cleaning ritual, the Learning Center at East Central College is asking community members for donations of professional clothing for men and women to help current ECC students as they start to build a professional wardrobe.

“We are looking for gently used, professional clothing to outfit our students for upcoming seminars and interviews,” noted Eileen Acheson, retention coordinator at ECC.  “We would welcome any donations of suits, skirts, blazers, dresses and pants.  It would also be great to get some dress shoes, ties, belts, scarves and jewelry to complete the outfits.”  Acheson noted that students come in many shapes and sizes, so all sizes would be useable.

Clothing and accessories can be dropped off outside the ECC Bookstore located on the lower level of the Multipurpose Building on the Union campus weekdays through April 11.  People who are unable to stop by campus can call Acheson at 636-584-6743 to arrange an alternate drop off time.  All donations are tax deductible.

“Our Community Closet will be set up in the gym and students will begin ‘shopping’ Thursday, April 12,” Acheson said.  “The following day any remaining items will be made available to students as well as community members from 9 a.m. until noon.  Acheson mentioned that any clothing not chosen will be donated to local charities.

“We had a great response for our first Community Closet last year,” said Acheson.  “Many students were able to put together appropriate interview outfits.”

The Community Closet event is an activity of the Graduate! St. Louis project, a grant funded by the U.S. Department of Labor’s Employment and Training Administration.
