The Education Department at East Central College invites high school seniors to learn about the education profession at Future Educators Day.

The free event will be held Tuesday, April 10, at the ECC campus in Union.  High school seniors can learn about careers in early childhood education, elementary education, middle school education, secondary education, special education and child development.

Activities will begin at 10 a.m.  Students will then sit in on Dawn Bristow’s Education Psychology class.  During the complimentary luncheon, participants will be able to talk with current education majors who are members of the Student Missouri State Teachers Association.   They will also tour the campus.

Participants who have completed their placement testing will have the opportunity to meet with education advisors and register for classes if they desire.

Megen Poynter, director of admissions at ECC, noted that the high school students who haven’t finished placement testing can do that by coming to campus early April 10 prior to the start of the event.  Testing will begin at 8:00 a.m. and pre-registration is required.

“Students can accomplish everything in one day,” noted Poynter.  “They can leave campus with a lot of in-depth knowledge about the field of education, a connection to our faculty and students and a fall schedule in hand.”
