East Central College invites area residents to the annual Senior Expo & Health Fair Friday morning, May 18.

 

The free event will be held from 9 a.m. until noon in the gymnasium of the Multipurpose Building on the college campus in Union. 

 

More than 40 entities have joined with the college to co-sponsor the event.  Comprehensive Eye Care, CrabApple Village Senior Estates, Patients First Healthcare, Wal-Mart and the Washington Lions Club are platinum level sponsors for 2012. 

 

The Bank of Washington, Ming Senior Services and New Hope Senior Behavioral Health Center/Missouri Baptist Sullivan Hospital are gold level sponsors.

 

Silver level sponsors include Advanced Sight Center, Arch Air Medical Service, Bankers Life and Casualty, BJC Home Care Services, City of Union Parks Department, Franklin County Transportation Council, Homeward Bound by St. Clair Nursing Center, Mederi Caretenders Home Health, Mercy, Natural Healing Centers, New Haven Care Center, Nurses to Go, OATS, Pharmax Pharmacy, Union Eye Associates, United Bank of Union and Walgreens & Take Care Health

 

The list of bronze level sponsors includes Anytime Fitness, Brown’s Shoe Center, Cardinal Ritter Senior Services, CLAIM, Employee Benefits Services, Feet for Life Podiatry, Heartland Hospice. An additional 26 vendors will be in attendance at the event.  Several of the vendors will be offer prize drawings and there will drawings for door prizes throughout the morning. 

 

Bonnie Gardner, coordinator of the Expo and Health Fair, noted that this is the seventh year the college has sponsored the free event.  “Our intent is the same as it was in 2006,” said Gardner.  “We want to promote health awareness through education and prevention, and to provide information to seniors about services available in the area.  Many free health screenings will be provided.” 

 

Gardner encourages anyone 55 and older to attend and bring family members who wish to hear about community resources available to their loved ones.  Golf carts will be available to shuttle attendees to the door so even those with difficulty walking will find it easy to get to the event.
