The Falcon softball team is headed to the National Junior College Athletic Association Division II National Tournament this week.

The Falcons board the bus at 7:30 a.m. Wednesday, (May 16), headed for the NJCAA-D II Tournament in Clinton, Mississippi.

ECC (28-30) drew the #16 seed in the tournament and will face the #1 seed from Louisiana State University-Eunice.  The Lady Bengal softball squad has a record of  53-9 and enters the tournament as the defending NJCAA Division II national champion.

The teams will face off at 9:30 a.m. Thursday (May 17) in the first game of the double elimination tournament.

If the Falcons lose they’ll play at 1:30 p.m. Thursday.  A victory would move them to the 3:30 p.m. game Thursday.

ECC advanced to the national stage after claiming the District J title in action at their home field May 4.  The Falcons defeated Murray State from Tishomingo, Oklahoma.  Coach Brad Wallach's squad outlasted the Aggies with a 5-4 victory in the opening contest, and took command in the second game - coming away with a 7-1 win.  Brooke Brenton was the winning pitcher in both contests.

This marks ECC's third trip to the national tournament.  In 1994 East Central finished ninth and in 1977 the team placed fifth.

The NJCAA D-II tournament will be held in the Jackson, Mississippi suburb of Clinton through Saturday, May 19.
