To assist prospective college students and their parents in navigating the college admissions and financial aid process, East Central College sites in Union and Rolla have scheduled free workshops in the upcoming weeks.

The Tuesday night workshops start in late February and are open to all members of the community, no matter what college a student plans to apply to for next academic year.

Workshop dates are February 19 and 26 and March 5, 12, and 26.  Families can meet informally with admissions staff from 5 to 5:30 p.m. to learn about college terminology, admissions and enrollment procedures.  ECC financial aid staff will be available anytime between 5:30 and 7 p.m. to provide assistance in completing the FAFSA online application.

People can attend one or both sessions at the ECC location most convenient for them.  On the Union campus, workshops sessions will be held in Room 182 in Buescher Hall.  ECC-Rolla will hold sessions in Room 117 at Rolla Technical Center located at 500 Forum Drive.

Karen Griffin, East Central College’s financial aid director, says people should start gathering the information required for filing federal tax returns in order to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).

“Students or parents who have not filed their 2012 returns yet should bring any statements of interest earned in 2012, 1099 forms, W-2s and any other forms required to complete taxes,” noted Griffin.  “With this information the FAFSA can be submitted online.  Once tax returns are filed, families can then go back online and submit corrections to the FAFSA.”

Families who have already filed their 2012 taxes should bring those forms with them.

Reservations are recommended for any of the workshop sessions, but walk-ins are welcome.  Individuals with questions should call 636-584-6564 or email: .
