On April 25, 2013, Vendini, Inc. (East Central College’s online ticketing system provider) detected an unauthorized intrusion into its systems. Vendini provides box-office and online ticketing services to ECC and hundreds of entertainment venues, which include tour, casino, sports, and arts organizations across the U.S. and Canada.

"Based on their records, customers who used a credit card to make a purchase that was processed through Vendini’s service may have had their information compromised in this incident," stated Phil Pena, vice president of finance and administration at ECC.  "At this time no fraud claims have been made, and the college is notifying individuals who made a purchase with a credit card about this situation."

Pena noted that Vendini has assured the college that members of ECC’s Patrons of the Arts program who did not have a credit card transaction with Vendini can be assured that none of their personal information has been compromised.

Vendini is actively cooperating with federal law enforcement, and this notification was delayed specifically to support law enforcement’s investigation.  In addition, a full-scale, internal investigation is under way at Vendini with outside computer forensic and cyber security experts.  Although Vendini’s internal investigation is ongoing, they believe that in late March, a third-party criminal actor used hacking technologies to access their databases and may have accessed personal information, such as name, mailing address, email address, phone number, and credit card numbers and expiration dates . Vendini does not collect credit card security access codes (e.g., CVV, CVV2, PINs), social security numbers, usernames or passwords.

  • To protect against the possibility of identity theft or fraud, we urge everyone to remain vigilant, and to regularly review credit card account statements and credit reports for any unauthorized activity.
  • People who suspect that they may be a victim of identity theft or fraud should immediately contact a local law enforcement agency, the State Attorney General’s office and the Federal Trade Commission.
  • Do NOT respond to any requests for sensitive personal information in relation to this incident.  Vendini will never request such information via email or telephone unless it is absolutely necessary to respond directly to people regarding how this incident may impact them.

"We sincerely regret this incident," said Pena.  "Protecting data privacy and security is a top priority for Vendini and East Central College."
