Area high school students are invited to attend the upcoming College Night hosted by East Central College.  The event will be held Thursday, October 24, from 5 to 6:30 p.m. in the gymnasium on the ECC campus.  College Night is an opportunity for students and their parents to meet with representatives from a variety of colleges, universities and trade schools.

Dozens of institutions will be represented at College Night.  ECC Admissions Director Nathaniel Mitchell encourages high school students to come with questions.  “College Night is an excellent chance for students to learn about a variety of colleges and the programs they offer,” said Mitchell.   “Representatives from the colleges will have a lot of information to distribute and will be happy to answer questions about financial aid, the cost of attending, admissions requirements and student life.”

Mitchell noted that there is no charge to attend the event and parents are welcome.   “The event is not just for high school juniors and seniors.  In recent years we’ve seen more sophomores attend College Night so they can plan the remainder of their high school courses and be better prepared to enter college.”

Mitchell stated that the goal of College Night is to help high school students learn about the options available to them after high school.  “In choosing a college, students should look for an institution where they have the greatest chance of enjoying academic success in a satisfying environment,”  Mitchell said.  “I also encourage students to print up some self-adhesive labels with their name, address, phone number, e-mail address, high school year of graduation, intended major(s) and extracurricular interests.  If they bring those along to College Night they can just put a label on the college information cards and save time filling out the same information at each school’s table.”
