The Missouri Community College Association presented Dr. Fatemeh Nichols, chairperson of the science division at East Central College, with the Senior Service Award at a ceremony held in St. Louis October 30.

The award was given in recognition of Nichols' service to East Central College, which began in 1983 when she joined the college as an instructional staff person charged with helping students and faculty in the chemistry lab.

Nichols is a graduate of St. Louis Community College.  She went on to earn her B.S., M.S., and Ph.D degrees in chemistry from the University of Missouri-St. Louis.   In 1989, she began teaching chemistry as a full-time faculty member; the first female member of ECC’s science department.
