Auditions for East Central College’s annual summer musical have been set.  People interested in being in the cast of The Music Man can audition at the college Tuesday or Wednesday, April 22 or 23.

Director John Anglin noted that potential cast members should drop by either day between 6:30 and 9:30 p.m. to the music department in Room 116 and 118 located in the Auditorium/Classroom Building on the ECC campus in Union.

The roles of Harold Hill, Marian Paroo and Winthrop have already been cast.  “People should wear comfortable clothing and be prepared to sing and dance their way into the cast,” Anglin said.  “We have roles for about 14 adult females, 14 adult males and 10 children between the ages of 9 and 15.  Vocal ranges will be assessed and dancing ability will be determined at the auditions.”

The Music Man, winner of five Tony Awards, will be presented at ECC July 24 through 27.  With book, music, and lyrics by Meredith Willson, the plot concerns con man Harold Hill, who poses as a boys' band organizer and leader.  He sells band instruments and uniforms to the naive Iowa townsfolk, promising to train the members of the new band.

However, Harold is no musician and plans to skip town without giving any music lessons. Prim librarian and piano teacher Marian sees through him.  When Harold helps her younger brother overcome his lisp and social awkwardness, Marian begins to fall in love and Harold risks being caught to win her.
