Improvements to Prairie Dell Road and construction of a roundabout at the entrance to the East Central College campus in Union are one step closer to reality after college trustees granted a request from the City of Union for a temporary construction easement.  At their June 16 meeting, board members also approved donating one-half acre of land to the City of Union for a right-of-way.

The project includes improvements to the roadway, installation of sidewalks on Prairie Dell Road and reconfiguration of the college entrance with the construction of the roundabout.  There will be no cost to the college for the changes that will be made to the roadways entering and leaving the campus.

Jonathan Zimmermann, engineer for the City of Union, noted that the temporary construction easement will provide access to the college during the project.  Work is expected to begin in spring of 2015, with construction of the roundabout to take place during the summer months when traffic is lighter.

Zimmermann stated that the city has already acquired most of the right of way for the project.

Board Policy and Procedure Revisions Approved

Trustees approved revisions to several personnel and student policies at the June meeting.  Updates were made to reflect current practices regarding rest and meal breaks for employees, as well as combining two policies related to sabbatical and professional leave.

Updates were also made to the student conduct and discipline policies.  New policies were put in place regarding student protection against discrimination and harassment, as well as student protections against sexual assault, relationship violence and stalking in accordance with the Campus Sexual Violence (SaVE) Act.
