The East Central College women’s softball team defeated Murray State College last Friday at ECC by scores of 2-1 and 4-3 in the National Junior College Athletic Association District J best two out of three series.  


Sarah Westhoff collected the win in the opening game against the Oklahoma team, pitching a one run gem.  Down 1-0 for most of the game, Haley Zenner hit a two run homer in the sixth to propel the Falcons to the victory.


In the second game ECC jumped to the early lead with solo home runs by  Zenner and Ashley Hill.   The Lady Aggies battled back to make it 2-1 and then ECC answered to go up 3-1. Murray State started putting some bunts together to manufacture two runs and tie the score at 3-3. The Falcons were able to go ahead for good in the sixth inning when Alex Adelsberger scored on a single by Kelsey to take the 4-3 lead which held up for the win. 


This marked the third consecutive year that ECC and Murray State met for the district title, with the Lady Aggies victorious in 2013.


With the victories the Lady Falcons (32-20) qualify for the NJCAA Division II National Softball Tournament set for May 14 through 17 in Clinton, Mississippi.  Ten teams have already punched their ticket to the national tournament, with the remaining six to be determined in district games later this week.  Tournament seeding will be determined early next week.


This is the second team Coach Brad Wallach will lead to nationals.  In 2012 the Falcons also qualified for the tournament in Mississippi, but lost two games and finished tied for 13 th.
