Introductory level course designed to upgrade or develop specific skills relative to current or anticipated employment.

Keyboarding
Designed for the student who has not typed before. Includes beginning instruction on the keyboard and numbers using a microcomputer and the arrangement of typewritten material. First 20 lessons of BT 1013.
Prerequisite: None

BT 1013 3.0
Keyboarding/Formatting
A study of the keyboard and techniques of touch typewriting, development of basic skills, and the arrangement of typewritten material. Individualized instruction-using a microcomputer.
Prerequisite: None.

BT 1021 1.0
Keyboard Skillbuilding I
A course to increase speed and accuracy on the computer keyboard. Designed for students not presently enrolled in a keyboarding class. The student will be guided by the software after a diagnosis is made of the student's keyboarding ability based on his/her speed and accuracy. Drill work will be scored immediately by the software.
Prerequisite: Keyboarding skills.

Technology & Procedures
The course emphasizes the following topics: work efficiency, setting priorities, time management, information retrieval and management, decision-making competencies, human relations techniques, ethical behavior, meetings, travel, and financial documents. Pre/Corequisite: Keyboarding skills

BT 1073 3.0
eBusiness
This course provides an overview of the principles of electronic commerce, the growth of ebusiness, the difference and similarities between ebusiness and traditional commerce, and the essentials of planning and starting an ebusiness. Many real-world ebusiness examples are used to illustrate the importance ebusiness plays in the growth, survival, and success of businesses.

Microsoft Word
Instructs the student in the features of word processing software. Topics covered include create, edit, format, print, and save documents while using the spelling dictionary, multi-page report, graphics, mail merge, macros, and table format features. Pre/Corequisite: Keyboarding skills

BT 1103 3.0
Bus Technology Applications
Students learn MOUS core level skill proficiency using Excel spreadsheet program, Access database management program, and PowerPoint presentation graphics program. They demonstrate their software proficiency by successfully completing business project.
Prerequisite: BT 1093

BT 1163 3.0
Legal Transcription
The beginning lessons introduce the student to the transcription process and equipment. Students then learn to transcribe various legal documents. Individualized instruction.
Prerequisite: BT 1093, minimum grade C

BT 1193 3.0
Customer Service
This course is a comprehensive examination into the principles of customer expectations, corporate expectations, and customer satisfaction. Emphasis is given to examining successful techniques for resolving customer service problems, dealing with difficult and angry customers, solving conflicts, and handling complaints and adjustments.
Prerequisite: None

Business Tech Projects
Students will complete business projects in which they demonstrate a comprehensive knowledge of Outlook electronic calendar and email management program capabilities, an advanced proficiency in Excel spreadsheet software capabilities, and thorough understanding of Windows operating system capabilities.
Prerequisite: BT 1093

BT 2033 3.0
Internship I
Supervised work experience in an actual office situation putting to use the skills and related knowledge learned in previous courses. Supervision on the job will be led by office personnel. Coordination of work experience to classroom learning will be done by the instructor. Time will be arranged.
Prerequisite: Enrollment in the Business Technology Program and consent of instructor.

BT 2043 3.0
Legal Document Production
This is a course designed for legal secretarial majors. It includes creating legal documents using specialized software. Legal terminology is studied. Skillbuilding software is used. Individualized instruction.
Prerequisite: BT 1093

BT 2063 3.0
Legal Office Procedures
A course specializing in the organization, functions, and duties in a legal office. Special attention is given to office and client financial records, law office files, litigation, and preparing court and noncourt documents.
Prerequisite: BT 1013

BT 2113 3.0
Integrated Applications
This course provides hands-on experience in integrating information generated by two or more Microsoft Office suite programs (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Outlook) to produce solutions to meet the needs of the business community. The projects simulate real world practices and a realistic work environment.
Prerequisite: BT 1093, BT 1103

BT 2133 3.0
Internship II

BT 2203 3.0
Program Capstone-Bus Tech
This course is designed to provide students with the skills for seeking employment (to manage their careers effectively). Topics covered include conducting a job search; interviewing techniques; employment, correspondence; acquiring web based skills; and resume; and portfolio development for job search, and career advancement. Students will also demonstrate technology and academic proficiencies (complete WorkKeys assessment). The course should be taken the last or next to last semester prior to graduation.

BT 2213 3.0
Business Communications
A study of different modes of communication used in the business environment today. This course is designed to improve the student's methods of communication. Emphasis will be placed on verbal and nonverbal communication forms, but will take a look at various written business document in use.
Prerequisite: EN 1223or EN 1233, minimum grade C

BT 2701-2705 1.0-5.0
I.S.-Business Technology
A specialized program of study directly related to the department's area of expertise. The course is arranged between a faculty member and a student and takes into consideration the needs, interests and background of the student.
Prerequisite: Consent of instructor

BT 2711-2715 1.0-5.0
Spec Topics-Bus Technology
Courses are offered to accommodate special interests of students and/or faculty. Typically, the course will cover new material not currently contained in the curriculum at ECC.
