*Radiographic Procedures I
The student learns how to perform radiographic procedures of the chest, abdomen, pelvis, and upper and lower extremity. Positioning techniques to achieve quality radiographs are discussed, along with associated anatomy, pathology, and special studies. Laboratory study is utilized in this unit to demoonstrates clinical applications of theoretical principles and concepts. The college offers this course as part of the Radiologic Technology program through partnership with the Rolla School District. Provides the student with an overview of Medical Imaging and its role in health care delivery. Students are oriented to key departments, professionalism, and the process to become a successful RT(R). *Patient Care in Radiologic Science
Student learns concepts, medical ethics, and patient care including consideration of physical and psychological conditions, routine and emergency patient care procedures, the role of the radiographer in patient education, and the special aspects of death and dying. Students learn the principles of cell radiation interaction. Radiation effects of cells and factors affecting cell response are presented, acute and chronic effects of radiation are discussed. The student learns how to perform radiographic procedures associated with the trauma (first 8 weeks). Positioning techniques to achieve quality radiographs are discussed, along with associated changes that need to be made to adapt to the trauma patient. Laboratory study is utilized in this unit to demonstrate clinical applications of theoretical principles and concepts. Computed Tomography (second 8 weeks) procedures learned will be head, abdomen/pelvis, thorax and several special examinations.
