East Central College and Occupational Education

East Central has partnered with the University of Central Missouri to offer an AAS in Occupational Education. The degree is designed to transfer to the University of Central Missouri to complete a Bachelor of Science in Occupational Education. The degree helps individuals transition from industry to education and will count prior industry experience. Students pursuing the AAS in Occupational Education and the Bachelor of Science in Occupational Education degree program are often mid-career professionals with occupational experience who want to transition to teaching their occupation to others.

This degree provides students with a blend of academic coursework, career education coursework - to include the fundamentals of teaching, including curriculum development, assessment, and classroom management - and further learning in the student’s teaching specialty area.

Students working toward a B.S. in Occupational Education may apply for Career Education teacher certification with the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) to teach in various Career Education programs at area career centers, comprehensive high schools, post-secondary adult programs, community colleges, or industry and business trainers.
