This class will teach you how to take an idea and turn it into a profitable business that any young adult could do.  Students will create a business to sell items at the college.  This will include how to market and finance the business, produce the products and selling the product.  The last part of the class will look at what students have learned and how they can take their ideas and put them into a business plan. Ages 5-9.

Introduction to Kayaking
Join us for an afternoon on the water for a basic kayaking program at Towell Lake located within Little Prairie Conservation Area northeast of Rolla. Meet Weston Little Hoof – Mini Horse 1

Students will have a first hand experience with a miniature horse and the care that is required. They will be up-close and in-person with a gentle mini-horse. Students may be able to lift his feet, brush him and learn about horses. Parents are required to stay with the students. Ages 5-8.

Fiber Crafts

The students will design and decorate a variety of fashion articles and accessories using painting, weaving, and other techniques. They will study fiber art traditions, 2-D design fundamentals, use of color and material, and other decorative media. This class will be fun and enriching for ages 9-18.

Empowering Minds and Body!

Each class will be a combination of mindfulness techniques and beSati (an empowering kids fitness program). We will engage in lessons and take steps to improve focus and concentration, increase self-awareness, reduce stress, and develop empathy. We’ll practice basic mindfulness techniques and reflect on them and how they can benefit our daily life. Then students will be guided to an understanding about choosing their thoughts, words and actions to generate a positive state of being through breathing, uplifting movements, and the use of warrior words. Each day will end with a challenge to take positive action. (Ages 6-13)

Are you a youth who has never shot a bow and arrow before and you’re not sure how to get started? Learn the basics of shooting the bow and arrow utilizing some of the techniques and methods that have been adopted by the National Archery in the Schools Program (NASP). This program will teach the fundamentals of archery including equipment, safety, stance, and shooting techniques. This course is for youth 10 years of age or older, with the desire to shoot a bow and arrow, but have little or no experience. Learn archery shooting fundamentals while gaining knowledge about equipment options and choices. Note: All equipment will be provided by the Missouri Department of Conservation. Not recommended for students with shoulder or back injuries. (Ages 10-18)

Outdoor Photography and Basic Editing 1

Students will learn techniques for doing basic outdoor digital photography. A portion of the class will be hands-on photography along with some very basic editing done on photos taken that day. It will be best if the student has a hand-held camera that has a removable SD memory card. There will be outdoor activity, weather permitting, students will visit tall grass prairie plots on ECC campus to photograph landscapes, flowers, grasses, and insects. The class will happen rain or shine, unless it is pouring rain, a light jacket or poncho might be needed. Shoes may get muddy or wet. (Ages 11-16)

Students must bring a SD card – no other format – and it must be blank. Students should wear long pants and appropriate shoes for walking in tall grass (no open-toed shoes, sandals or flip-flops).  Insect repellent is a must and students should bring their own, especially if they are sensitive to it.

The Things You Cannot See 

Did you know that you are made of cells? In this class, you will get a chance to see your own cells, identify microorganisms in pond water, and look at bacteria under a microscope. Students will learn to use microscopes, learn about microorganisms (bacteria, viruses, and other) and have a chance to use scientific equipment, including making your own microscope slides. Ages 8 – 14.

*Students must wear fully-enclosed shoes (NO sandals or clogs) and pants that cover their whole leg (NO crop pants or shorts).

Mammals of Missouri 1

Explore the diversity of mammals in our state. Observe hands-on items such as mammal furs, skulls, and tracks to learn about different types of mammals in our state. Recognize some mammals by sound or smell alone. Answer questions such as: “Who sleeps during the day?”, “Does a flying squirrel fly?”, and “What does it meant to ‘know your species by their feces’?” Come “warm up” to our fellow furry Missouri residents by learning more about what they need to survive and flourish. Participants will make a plaster cast from their favorite Missouri animal track. Ages 10-18.

Teen Deputy Summer Academy

Are you interested in learning more about a career in law enforcement? Join the Phelps County Sheriff’s Department in a weeklong program to explore the skills necessary to become a deputy sheriff and what you can expect to learn in a law enforcement training program. Topics covered include constitutional law, traffic regulations, ethics, SWAT, K9 and so much more! Ages 14-18 (high school).

Do you want to know more about science, technology, engineering, and math? In this class you will play games, do experiments, and visit a college science laboratory space. Make Your Own Zine

A “zine” is a small homemade magazine that features original writing and collages to express specific interests and explore subjects.

Students will learn about the history of zines in a culture and produce their own; they’ll be able to write, interview one another, and design their own handmade publications, which will then be photocopied for them to distribute as they wish. Pediatric First Aid CPR for Babysitter 1

The Pediatric Heartsaver CPR and First Aid course will prepare students to provide emergency care for the following: CPR for infants and children, choking for infants and children, and first aid for trauma and medical issues that might arise when babysitting. Outdoor Photography and Basic Editing 2

Students will learn techniques for doing basic outdoor digital photography. A portion of the class will be hands-on photography along with some very basic editing done on photos taken that day. It will be best if the student has a hand-held camera that has a removable SD memory card. There will be outdoor activity, weather permitting, students will visit tall grass prairie plots on ECC campus to photograph landscapes, flowers, grasses, and insects. The class will happen rain or shine, unless it is pouring rain, a light jacket or poncho might be needed. Shoes may get muddy or wet. Ages 11-16.

Students must bring a SD card – no other format – and it must be blank. Students should wear long pants and appropriate shoes for walking in tall grass (no open-toed shoes, sandals or flip-flops).  Insect repellent is a must and students should bring their own, especially if they are sensitive to it.

In this class, you will get a chance to see your own cells, grow and look at bacteria from your mouth and hands, and make paintings using bacteria. Students will learn to use microscopes, learn about microorganisms (bacteria, viruses, and other) and have a chance to use scientific equipment, including growing bacteria on solid media and making your own slides and looking at them under the microscope. The Pediatric Heartsaver CPR and First Aid course will prepare students to provide emergency care for the following: CPR for infants and children, choking for infants and children, and first aid for trauma and medical issues that might arise when babysitting. This is an instructor-driven course with video and hands-on learning. Students will also perform skill check-offs. Students will be provided a workbook and receive a course completion card that can be printed. Cards are good for 2 years.  (Ages 12 – 17)

How It’s Really Made 2

Welcome to an exciting journey into the world of CNC machining, specially designed for young enthusiasts! In this engaging class, children will discover the fascinating realm of computer-controlled manufacturing with the guidance of Titans of CNC tutorials and East Central instructors. Through interactive and hands-on activities, budding engineers and creators will explore the fundamentals of CNC machining in a fun and accessible way. From understanding the basics of computer programming to witnessing the transformation of raw materials into custom-designed creations, kids will be inspired to unleash their creativity and problem-solving skills.

Culinary Arts-Pizza from Scratch 2

The ECC Teen Theatre Troupe will spend two weeks immersing themselves into the rehearsal process for a one-act performance on August 9th at 2 pm. During these two weeks, students will also engage in activities that sharpen their improvisation and acting skills. We will dive into character analysis, script subtext, vocal projection, memorization, blocking stage directions, and so much more. Backstage theatre work is important too! Students will learn the basics of working backstage by acquiring props and set pieces for their production. They will take an active roll in bringing their show to life in this collaborative process. Discover Nature Fishing

Come join us to learn fishing basics.

Equipment, Casting and Proper Fish Handling combines instruction with hands-on fishing to teach young anglers and families basic fishing techniques and skills. Participants will learn how to properly and safely cast a spincast fishing rod, parts of a fishing rod, how to fasten basic fishing tackle and how to properly handle and release a fish. (Ages 15-18)

Fishing equipment and bait/lures will be provided.
