TRIO Students Don’t Do College Alone

College gets complicated fast. TRIO gives eligible ECC students a built-in support system for advising, transfer planning, financial guidance, and next steps.
You may qualify if you are:
- a first-generation college student
- income-eligible based on federal guidelines
- registered with ECC Access Services for a documented disability
You must also be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident and demonstrate a need for the program.
Not sure whether you qualify? Apply anyway. We can help you figure that out.
TRIO is free, and participating in the program does not reduce your financial aid.
Spots are limited.
*After you apply, our staff will review your application and follow up about next steps.

Program Benefits
Get Personalized Advising
TRIO is built around consistent, individualized support. Students in the program meet with their advisor at least three times each semester to check in, talk through challenges, and keep moving forward with a plan. TRIO is not only for students who are struggling. It is also for students who want more structure, clearer direction, and stronger support while they work toward graduation, transfer, or career goals.
That plan is called an Individualized Career and Academic Plan (CAP). Your CAP is built around your goals, your situation, and the kind of support you actually need. For one student, that might mean tutoring and study skills. For another, it might mean transfer advising, financial literacy, time management, or help getting unstuck when college starts getting messy.
The point is not to give every student the same checklist. The point is to give you structure that fits your life, your goals, and the reality you are dealing with.
Build Career Development and Real-World Experience
TRIO helps you do more than just think about careers. We help you start moving toward one.
That might mean exploring careers and majors, but it also means helping you get connected to the field you care about as early as possible. We work with students on building résumés, preparing job and internship application materials, practicing interviews, and finding ways to start gaining relevant experience.
Depending on your goals, that could include shadowing, internships, networking, or learning how to build experience that will actually matter when it is time to transfer, apply, or enter the workforce.
The goal is not just to ask, “What do you want to do someday?” It is to help you start doing something about it now.
Get Financial Guidance That Goes Beyond Aid
Money affects almost every college decision, and most students are expected to just somehow know how all of it works. TRIO helps make that part less confusing.
Yes, we can help students understand financial aid and scholarship questions, but that is only part of it. We also work with students on budgeting, managing money, building and using credit wisely, understanding debt, and developing financial habits that can support them long after college.
We want students to leave with more than a degree plan. We want them to build the kind of financial knowledge that makes adult life less chaotic and more manageable.
Access Workshops, Events, and New Experiences
TRIO gives students access to workshops and experiences that support both personal growth and college success.
That includes practical workshops on topics like study skills, financial literacy, transfer planning, and career development. But it also includes cultural and professional experiences that many students may not otherwise have had the time, money, or opportunity to access.
That might mean attending a campus event, visiting a new city, going to a show or game, sharing a professional-style dinner, or learning how to navigate new environments with more confidence. These experiences are part of helping students expand their horizons, build confidence, and see new possibilities for themselves.
Explore Transfer Visits and Join a Community of Support
If you’re thinking about transferring after ECC, TRIO can help you make that next step feel more real and more manageable.
You will have opportunities to visit four-year campuses, learn about transfer pathways, connect with staff at other schools, and get a clearer sense of what their options actually look like. That makes it easier to ask questions, compare schools, and make decisions with more confidence.
At the same time, TRIO is more than a set of services; it is a support system. You’ll have people to ask questions, people to check in with, and people who can help you stay organized, make decisions, and keep moving when college gets confusing or overwhelming. You do not have to figure everything out alone.
