Learn Online with AEL

If you need a virtual and more flexible way to learn with Adult Education, you can attend an online only class if you have the required technology available at home and meet minimum reading skill requirements.
To participate in an online only course, you:
- Must be a Missouri resident and have a Missouri mailing address
- Cannot be enrolled in high school
- Cannot hold an F1 Visa
- Must be at least 17 years old
- Take the Test for Adult Basic Education (TABE) pretests
- Achieve a minimum scale score of 501 on the TABE Reading test.
- Math and Language skills assessments will be completed during the same test session.
Before registering for online only classes, you will need the following for your online studies:
* Computer with speakers and a webcam
* Computer that is less than five years old and running Windows 11 or higher
* Reliable high-speed internet with the Chrome browser installed
* Own email account and knowledge of using it properly
* Ability to complete a minimum of six hours of study every week
* Willingness to learn and study for your high school equivalency test
An orientation is required via Zoom. Find dates and register for classes from our high school equivalency page.
Working with a Teacher Online
- Your Teacher: You will have an online teacher. They will give you work and check how you’re doing.
- Check-In Tests: After 48 hours of study time, you need to come in for a test to show how much you’ve learned.
