In a remote village, whose name roughly means “a cold place,” this film looks for warmth in encounters. The Ukrainian village of Stuzhytsya is situated in the Carpathian Mountains in the border triangle between Poland and Slovakia. The three elderly female protagonists — a farmer, a post office clerk and a biologist — are firmly rooted in a place where hardly any young people are left in 2019, the year of Volodymyr Zelensky’s election victory. Over time, the film crew also becomes, at least temporarily, a valued part of the village community.

Miguel Espinoza Fusion, world-class musicians Miguel Espinoza, guitar; Dianne Betkowski, cello; and Randy Hoepker, bass, invites the listener into a rich and colorful symposium of musical traditions. Firm roots in flamenco, classical, and jazz are woven through with North African rhythms, Celtic whimsy, and Brazilian expressions for a sound that is transformative, vibrant, and deeply emotive.

International Day Celebration festival is free, family friendly, and open to the public. Highlights of the festival are cultural dance performances, a  display of traditional attire from around the world and country booths where attendees can explore cultures from around the world through crafts, food, games, puzzles,  storytelling, and displays of artifacts and clothing.

Entertainment for the day includes:
Kenya Ajanaku: Experience the rhythms and folklore of Africa. This performance includes storytelling and drums that celebrates the African culture. Audience participation  involves hand-picked audience members to dance and play African instruments.

Samba Bom: A Midwest-based music and dance ensemble that plays authentic Brazilian music including samba, bossa nova, Brazilian jazz, olodum, forro, chorinho, among  others. The Batucada is an exciting, all-percussive jam session that brings any audience to its feet to dance along with the group — just like Carnaval festivities in Rio de Janeiro.
