Crochet for Beginners (Fall 2024)
Crochet has been around for centuries and is still one of the most popular yarn crafts today. It is a method of creating a looped fabric from yarn with a crochet hook. Crochet is a fun, relaxing hobby that anyone can do! In this class students will learn the basics of crochet which include learning the 6 basic crochet stitches; chain stitch, slip stitch, single crochet, half double crochet, double crochet, triple crochet, how to make a magic circle and how to read a crochet pattern. It’s not difficult to learn how to crochet, but it can be a little tricky in the beginning. Like learning any new skill, mastering crochet will take a fair bit of perseverance and patience. Students will need to purchase the following:
Crochet Supply List (Please bring to class)
- Yarn – Medium yarn weight worsted-weight yarn, smooth texture and light in color
- Crochet hook- size J
- Scissors- any size
- Darning needle – to weave in yarn tails when finished
- Stitch maker- a small piece of yarn will work
- Tape measure
- Folder / binder – to hold notes and patterns
- Notebook – to keep track of projects
- Pencil bag- to hold supplies
- Bag to hold project and items
- Pen
Register at least one week prior to the start of class to avoid class cancellations. Class size is limited.
