This comprehensive two-day training course is designed to provide managers with a fundamental understanding of key employment laws and regulations that impact the workplace. Managers will gain essential knowledge about a variety of important topics including at-will employment, anti-discrimination laws, workplace safety, employee benefits, and privacy laws. Through an exploration of laws such as Title VII, the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA), the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA), and many others, participants will learn how these regulations affect day-to-day management decisions and practices. For thousands of years, many different cultures have used reflexology for relaxation and health. Reflexologists apply gentle pressure to points of the foot for a variety of health benefits. Bag Twining with Repurposed Materials (Spring 2025)

Course Description

This course introduces the student to the ancient native American traditions of twining by making a simple twined bag which can be used as a purse, carrier, or tote bag. The course will include a history of Cherokee twining and its comparisons to other textile processes. The choices of materials will emphasize the use of non-traditional repurposed materials such as scrap cotton and polyethylene.

Students will learn how to:

  • set up a twining loom and begin a bag project.
  • select and prepare natural and synthetic materials.
  • apply stitch variations, color choices, and patterns.
  • finish the bottoms and add straps.

Instructors will guide students in all phases and they will have time between sessions to proceed with their projects out of class.

Each student will receive their own loom to take home.

2 hours each session, 5 sessions held weekly, total of 10 hours.

Beginner Origami Session 1 (Spring 2025)

Course Description

This course provides an introduction to the Japanese technique of paper folding. Students will follow along with the instructor to make origami animals and decorative models. The course will include a history of the origins and international growth of origami, its connections to geometry and mathematics, and its latest technological advances.

Students will learn how to:

  • select appropriate papers for folding projects.
  • fold simple bases that are used in traditional models.
  • interpret and follow printed diagrams to make simple and intermediate skill-level models.
  • apply origami for gift accessories and event decoration.
  • demonstrate origami to younger folders.

This beginner-friendly course introduces you to the fundamentals of Linux, helping you navigate and use the Linux operating system confidently. You’ll learn essential concepts such as:

Basic Linux commands: Navigate the file system and use the terminal.

User management: Create and manage users and permissions.
Package management: Install and remove software using package managers.
System basics: Perform basic system administration tasks like monitoring processes and configuring network settings.
Troubleshooting: Use help resources and solve common issues.
