Escape Room: Post-Apocalyptic 1 

Long after the nuclear apocalypse, your group of wasteland wanderers is searching for a way to purify the radioactive water you depend on. Some clues in an old computer have led you to this ancient, crumbling bomb shelter. Can you solve a scientific mystery and find the water purifier without triggering a meltdown or getting sealed in the vault… forever? Gather a team of 4-6 players and sign up together! Ages 13 – 18.

Youth Life Skills/Self-Defense

Students ages 8-12 will learn “Life Skills” including; basic team building skills, classroom etiquette, home etiquette, basic self-defense techniques and more from a trained martial arts instructor.  This class will emphasize courtesy, respect and confidence while also teaching methods for combating bullying.

Science by Brewer 

The students will get to explore many aspects of the science industry, including leadership and team building,  exploring their own entrepreneurial ideas. Exploring STEM opens a world of possibilities and will encourage the next generation of leaders. Science is fun and it is OK to noisy and messy. Students will experiment with milk, soap and food coloring, snap circuits, Oreos and scales. And still more surprises. Ages 8 – 11.

Basic Archery 2
Are you a youth who has never shot a bow and arrow before and you’re not sure how to get started? Learn the basics of shooting the bow and arrow utilizing some of the techniques and methods that have been adopted by the National Archery in the Schools Program (NASP). This program will teach the fundamentals of archery including equipment, safety, stance, and shooting techniques. This course is for youth 10 years of age or older, with the desire to shoot a bow and arrow, but have little or no experience. Learn archery shooting fundamentals while gaining knowledge about equipment options and choices. Note: All equipment will be provided by the Missouri Department of Conservation. Not recommended for students with shoulder or back injuries. (Ages 10-18)

* Classes will be CANCELLED if we encounter inclement weather — rain or heat (temps more than 90 degrees)

Newborn/Pediatric Nursing: How to Care for Baby 2

Do you have a child that is interested in the field of newborn/pediatric Nursing? A child that is expecting a new sibling? Do you have a child that loves babies? Then this would be a great class for them! (Ages 5-7.)

Students will learn about newborn care from a Pediatric Nurse and one of East Central College’s own Nursing Instructors! In this class, we will discuss topics that pertain to normal newborn care. Some of the topics that will be discussed include:

  • Changing diapers
  • Swaddling
  • How to change baby’s clothes
  • How to hold baby properly
  • Breastfeeding and bottle feeding
  • How to soothe baby
  • Vaccine education
  • When to call 911

Register at least one week prior to the start of class to avoid class cancellations. Class size is limited.

STEM Academy Teaching

Do you want to learn more about science? Do you want to learn how to teach science? What do you think is interesting? How can you get other students interested in it too? You will meet for three days to talk about science and teaching, and plan science activities for younger students to do the following week. Edible experiments are popular. During the second week, gain the experience of teaching what you have recently learned. Students should plan to attend all sessions. Ages 13-18.

*Students must wear fully-enclosed shoes (no sandals or clogs) and pants that cover their whole leg (no crop pants or shorts).
