Ensembles


East Central College Band is open to college level student performers of all majors and community members who wish to continue performing concert band style literature at a superior level. While performing only a few times per semester, the College Band exposes the members and concertgoers to an impressive repertoire that includes a wide range of original, arranged and other cutting edge literature. East Central College Jazz Band an audition only student performing ensemble that prepares and presents concerts of the Big Band style. The Jazz Band performs regularly on and off campus providing great exposer for the young musicians. During the spring semester of 2015, the Jazz Band will be featured at the Clara Eitmann Messmer Amphitheater in Hermann, MO, The Downtown Art and Wine Festival in Washington, MO, The Washington Missouri Fairgrounds Amphitheater and the 2nd Annual East Central College Jazz Festival on our Union campus. College Choir is a performance course open to all students who have had previous music experience. There are no prerequisites required. College Choir meets on Mondays and Wednesdays from 1:30-3:00 p.m. under the direction of Dr. Tim Sexton Timothy.Sexton@eastcentral.edu. The College Choir performs, at least, twice per semester in the fall and spring. Literature includes music from all stylistic periods from Renaissance to contemporary, small choral works to large choral works with orchestra. Most concerts are on campus, but the ensemble has performed in several area sanctuaries when necessary for musical reasons. The College Choir is primarily a student ensemble, but is open to community members with sufficient choral experience.

Vocal Jazz Ensemble is an audition only performance ensemble focusing on vocal jazz and popular styles. Auditions will be held one week prior to the first week of class. Student must be enrolled in College Choir, unless given special permission. This ensemble performs much a cappella literature and popular jazz standards. Another focus of this course to prepare students in vocal improvisation and soloing with a jazz instrumental ensemble. This ensemble is available only to East Central College students.

Choral Association is a performance course open to all students and community members. The ensemble primarily focuses on large choral works, often with orchestra, and performs on and off campus. This is primarily a community ensemble, but is available as a for-credit course.

Piano Ensemble is designed to acquaint piano majors with various aspects of collaborative piano work. This course includes work in the piano duets, duos and piano chamber repertoire. It may also include playing accompaniments for solo singers or instrumentalists, or for school ensembles. During the semester students are expected to play for lessons or classes, in private sessions, and on student recitals and juries; under the direction of Jennifer Lim Judd: Jennifer.Judd@eastcentral.edu

Percussion Ensemble is designed to acquaint percussion majors with various aspects of collaborative percussion work. The course will include work on percussion chamber repertoire as well as improvisatory pieces. Students will explore traditional, concert literature as well as world percussion ensemble playing.
