Student Government Association
We, the Student Government Association (SGA) of East Central College (ECC), in order to develop student appreciation and understanding of democratic values and process through participation in student government, aim to develop and uphold students’ free expression and a realization of their right to convey their opinions and experiences to faculty, staff, and the college administration. SGA will provide a means to do so effectively and efficiently, as well place emphasis on active citizenry in the students by maximizing self-control and self-direction in all areas of student life.
The Student Government Association at the Union campus meets monthly in DSSC 103. Dates for academic year ’24-’25 are currently TBD. Meetings are open to all students.

- Representation: You have the opportunity to represent your clubs, teammates, and peers and bring their concerns, ideas, and feedback to the student government. This gives you a chance to be a voice for the student body and influence policies, advocate for changes, and contribute to creating a positive impact on campus life. This sense of making a difference can be highly rewarding.
- Leadership Experience: Participating in student government allows you to develop leadership skills. You may have the chance to run for positions, organize events, or lead initiatives, all of which can help you grow as a leader.
- Networking: You’ll meet fellow students who are passionate about making a difference on campus. This networking can lead to friendships, collaborations on projects, and connections that may be valuable in your academic and professional life.
- Skill Development: You’ll gain experience in various skills such as public speaking, negotiation, event planning, and budget management. These are valuable skills that can enhance your resume and prepare you for future roles.
