Substitute Teaching


Description: Typically, a substitute teacher is someone who teaches and supervises students in the event that the students’ regular teacher is unable to teach their class. Substitute jobs may last for a day, a week or large portions of the school year.

Responsibilities: As a substitute teacher you could encounter the following duties on a daily basis.

  • interpreting lesson plans
  • managing classroom behaviors
  • taking notes to report back to the regular teacher
  • supervising lunch/recess/bus duties

Must have qualifications to apply for or hold a current substitute certificate (60+ college hours or 20 hour Frontline course required) or valid Missouri teaching certificate.

Must be able to pass a fingerprint background check using the St. Clair R-XIII district code when registering with MACHS, and the Family Care Safety Registry. Fees are at the applicants expense.

The daily rate of pay is $120 per day / $17.15 hr for certified (teaching certificate) and $110 per day / $15.72 hr for non-certified (substitute certificate).
