Calendar
East Central College is on the semester system. The academic calendar consists of two 16-week semesters and one condensed summer semester period lasting approximately 8 weeks.

ECC uses a four point grading system.

Types of Degrees and Certificates Offered
The Associate of Arts (AA) degree is the institutional transfer degree.
The Associate of Arts in Teaching (AAT) degree is the institutional transfer degree for students preparing to study in teacher education programs.
The Associate of Fine Arts (AFA) degree is a specifically articulated degree with the University of Missouri-St. Louis. It includes a general education core tailored to students interested in study in a Bachelor of Fine Arts program and the necessary coursework in the fine arts. The degree includes a variety of elective coursework appropriate for the specialized areas of studio and graphic arts.
The Associate of Science (AS) degree is the institutional pre-engineering degree.
The Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degree is the career and workforce preparation degree.
Certificate of Specialization is a career/technical program consisting of up to twenty-nine credit hours, designed to prepare students for entry-level employment. (Formerly referred to as the One-Year Certificate.)
Certificate of Achievement is a career/technical program consisting of thirty to fifty-nine credit hours, designed to prepare students for entry-level employment. (Formerly referred to as the Two-Year Certificate.)
