Student Awards and Recognition


At East Central College, student awards are a valuable component of our student experience. We believe in recognizing students for academic excellence, leadership, perseverance, and more. Read below to learn more about the various awards our students can earn.

Awards


President’s Spirit of East Central College Award

This prestigious award recognizes one student annually who demonstrates exemplary academic excellence and significant student involvement during their time at East Central College. This is the highest award that can be given to an ECC student.

To be eligible for this award, students must have completed their application for graduation, have a 3.75+ GPA, be involved in at least one official ECC student organization, and be nominated by an ECC employee from a list of eligible students provided by the Registrar. The winner of this award is recognized at Commencement.

Vice Presidents’ Academic Excellence Award

This prestigious award recognizes one student annually who demonstrates exemplary academic excellence during their time at East Central College.

To be eligible for this award, students must have at least a 3.4-3.7 GPA and they must be nominated by a department chair. All nominations are submitted to the Vice Presidents for final selection.

Outstanding Student Leader Award

This award annually recognizes one student from our Union campus and one from our Rolla location who demonstrate exceptional leadership capabilities within their student organization(s).

To be eligible for this award, students should be a recorded participant of at least one official student organization, and they must be nominated by their club advisor. The winners are chosen via committee with representatives from administration, faculty of varying disciplines, Professional Staff Association, and Classified Staff Association.

Collaborative Excellence Award

This award annually recognizes one student from our Union campus and one from our Rolla location who demonstrate outstanding collaborative capabilities within their student organization(s). This award was designed to highlight student leaders who may not always want to be at the forefront as a leader, but whose collaborative spirit proves essential to the success of the club and the maintenance of an encouraging environment.

To be eligible for this award, students should be a recorded participant of at least one official student organization, and they must be nominated by their club advisor. The winners are chosen via committee with representatives from administration, faculty of varying disciplines, Professional Staff Association, and Classified Staff Association.

Club Officer Recognition

Club advisors are encouraged to nominate their students for awards celebrating their involvement as a leader and their contributions to student engagement on campus.

Outstanding Student Organization

The Outstanding Student Organization award will be chosen by Student Government Association based on submitted documentation surrounding club activity. One group will be chosen from both the Union and Rolla locations.

Academic Distinction Awards

Academic distinction awards are to be given to students by faculty in recognition of noteworthy academic success. While the recipients of these awards will likely possess an excellent mark in the gradebook, these students should also demonstrate an understanding of course material, be an active participant in class, and contribute to the larger culture of succeeding in the classroom. Faculty may choose multiple students for these awards.

Spirited Falcon Awards

Spirited Falcon awards are to be given to students by faculty in recognition of perseverance, a consistent willingness to learn and improve, and measured improvement as deemed appropriate by the faculty nominator. Faculty may choose multiple students for these awards.
