Applied Technology


The Applied Technology certificate and degree allows for students to combine a wider variety of courses, such as welding and building construction, to broaden their scope of skills within a manufacturing setting. The program provides a flexible approach to customized credit-hour training or apprenticeship programs for employers.

The Applied Technology will allow flexibility in course selection to match the student’s Advanced Manufacturing interest.

Applied Technology, AAS

Program Description

The East Central College Applied Technology program is designed as a pathway that offers a “broad” set of skills for a prospective student whose employment opportunities in the field of general skilled maintenance or a focused concentration area of precision machinery, industrial engineering technology, welding, or HVAC/R. With a balance of classroom instruction, software simulation, and electronic lab work students are challenged on theory and practice. Courses are instructed by industry professionals from the fields of their respected industry.

Program Format

The Applied Technology degree is a two-year 60 credit hour program that provides a balance of coursework based on the student’s interest from the following programs:

  • HVAC/R
  • Industrial Engineering Technology
  • Precision Machinery
  • Welding
  • Automotive
  • Building Construction

The degree is structured by offering prescribed hours towards core programming and technical electives. The Applied Technology degree allows students to tailor a degree to match their current employment requirements or prepare for future employment. The Applied Technology degree will allow flexibility in course selection to match the student’s technological interest. Students must take Intro to Manufacturing and Falcon Seminar with the balance of course work from the noted programs. In the degree pathway students are required to complete fifteen hours of general education courses.

  3. Problem Solving: Program graduates will demonstrate the ability to use a variety of techniques in solving problems presented in the field of Skilled Trades.
  4. Communication: Skilled Trades program graduates will effectively communicate the technical content of the field, both written and orally.

 

Applied Technology, Certificate of Achievement

The Certificate of Achievement is very similar to the degree pathway yet is structured for those who are seeking a “quick” re-entry to the employment market or those seeking to enhance their skill set of their current employment. For instance, a precision machinist returning to update their skill set to meet current industry standards.
