Teen Deputy Summer Academy

Are you interested in learning more about a career in law enforcement? Join the Phelps County Sheriff’s Department in a weeklong program to explore the skills necessary to become a deputy sheriff and what you can expect to learn in a law enforcement training program. Topics covered include constitutional law, traffic regulations, ethics, SWAT, K9 and so much more! Ages 14-18 (high school).

After you register for the class, you will be sent an application. All applications must be completed and returned by July 1, 2023. Submit the application to LETC@eastcentral.edu or in person at East Central College, 2303 North Bishop, Rolla, MO 65401.

Industrial Engineering Robotics – CLASS IS FULL

Learn how to program small industrial robots to perform tasks. Your robot will be able to pick up parts, sort them and place them based on how you write your program. This class is ideal for students who have progressed past Lego Robotics and wish to program industrial robots. No prior programming is necessary. Student ages 13 – 18.

Robotics and Computer Programming (2) – CLASS IS FULL

Students will have an awesome time building robots that can navigate obstacle courses and respond to a multitude of sensors, including motion, touch, and sound. Our students work with the LEGO® Mindstorms base kit to master the programming of basic movements, and then progress to more difficult challenges. Our goal is to make science, technology, engineering and mathematics irresistibly FUN. You must be 9-12 years old to attend this camp.

Amazing Anatomy 2 – CLASS IS FULL

Have fun learning the basic anatomy of the skeleton through a variety of activities. Learn the basic bones in your body from an ECC Anatomy and Physiology instructor. Ages 5-7.

*Students must wear closed toed shoes, long pants/skirt to the ankle to be in the lab room.

Christmas in July (2) – CLASS IS FULL

The students will make 3 – 5 handcrafted holiday ornaments that can be made at home later too. Students will do hand sewing, ironing, paper cutting, scoring, painting and gluing. Get great ideas to use recycled items. Students may be asked to bring a few items from home, like a matchbox car and/or puzzle pieces. This class will be fun and enriching for ages 8 – 14.

Computer Animation – CLASS IS FULL

Students will use freeware to do stop-motion animation using clay, paper, props, and sound. Students should bring a bag of props that they want to use to create the animated movie, such as action figures, cars, clay, Legos or whatever their imagination can think of. Ages 9-18.

Culinary Arts-Pizza from Scratch (1) – CLASS IS FULL

This class will learn to make their own dough and sauce for their pizza, as well as a trip to greenhouse. Students will see where the tomatoes, that will be used in the sauce come from, along with other toppings. Students will be able to taste their wonderful creations at the pizza party at the end of the class on Tuesday!  (Subject to slight changes.) Ages 5-10.

NO FLIP FLOPS! Students, please wear tennis shoes.

Fishing 

Have you thought about a career in sport fishing? Students will gain knowledge in the world of fishing for catfish and other species. The instructor will describe multiple areas for you to focus your attention and energy on, instruct on angling methods, identify multiple rigging methods, and bait. Learn to analyze nature’s effects on fishing, outline water clarity and lures that are best for offsetting the color changes, and apply boat and bank positioning. The instructor will summarize Spring/Fall/Winter staging areas, ways to locate fish in different bodies of water. Learn to analyze structure and how to fish each situation. Ages 13 – 18.

Get to Know Franklin County (1)

Brief overview of the different offices in the Franklin County government and how they serve them, their families, and the whole county. Learning about how an election works from start to finish. A mock election will take place to show how the process goes. The students will use a real voting machine. Students are encouraged to bring in their questions. Ages 8-10.
