ECC Foundation Hosts ‘Gala in a Box’ for 2021 Friends of the Foundation

Due to the pandemic, the East Central College Foundation had to get creative in hosting its largest fundraiser to provide scholarships for students. Instead of a dinner with live entertainment, the Friends of the Foundation event this year transformed into a “Gala in a Box” filled with items created or donated by students and alumni.

“We decided to celebrate our students past and present in spirit this year,” said Bridgette Kelch, executive director. “We are bringing the party to you with a special box filled with edibles, wine, art, and more. The support we receive for the Friends campaign provides hundreds of scholarships and opens the doors of opportunity for student success at ECC,” Kelch added.

Since 2002, the ECC Foundation has awarded $2.4 million in scholarships to students in need.

It’s not too late to donate and receive the “Gala in a Box.” Items include:

  • A small shovel donated by Sandi Hillermann McDonald, president of Hillermann Nursery & Florist, Washington, who earned an associate of science degree in ornamental horticulture.
  • A decorated cookie by Sara Kay Hannel, owner of Fairytale Cookie Co. in Downtown Washington, who completed the culinary program.
  • A steel straw and cleaner, donated by alum John Moroney, president and owner of W&M Restaurants, which owns Taco Bell in St. Clair, Union and Washington, and more than two dozen fast food restaurants in the USA.
  • Red dessert wine, donated by alums Karen and Charlie Schlottach, owners of White Mule Winery and Bed and Breakfast. Karen played volleyball, softball, and basketball at ECC and was crowned Homecoming queen.
  • Chocolate confections prepared by the ECC Culinary Art students.
  • Notecards featuring the artwork of two ECC art students.

Other items include ECC face masks, hand sanitizer, pens, and more. Gala boxes will be delivered to those making donations of $125 or more.

Donations can be made via cash, check, online or via Venmo!  Franklin Falcon is on Venmo at @Franklin-Falcon-ECC or call 636-584-6505.

The 2022 Friends of the Foundation event will be held at the Holiday Inn at Six Flags in Eureka on Friday, February 4. The evening includes cocktails, dinner, dessert, and entertainment.
