Hunter Education 1 (Fall 2024) Union

Missouri’s hunter education course is required for any hunter born on or after Jan. 1, 1967.  Attend this classroom session featuring lectures and videos. You MUST attend the session, complete all student manual chapter review questions, and present to the instructor at the skills session. Hunter education has reduced hunting accidents and deaths by more than 70 percent since it became mandatory in 1987. For this reason, we recommend all hunters become hunter-education certified. Our Hunter Education Program provides a foundation in hunting safety and ethics. It instills responsibility, improves skills and knowledge, and encourages interaction between beginner and veteran hunters.

Introductory Screen Printing (Fall 2024)

This introductory course focuses on the medium of screen printing to create original prints with readily-available materials at home. We will explore cut and painted stencils, single and
multiple color schemes, and experimental techniques that students can use beyond these class sessions. Materials required for the class will be provided, students will have a screen and squeegee at the end of the class.
No previous experience is required.
Instructor qualifications: I’ve practiced Screen Printing commercially and artistically for over thirty years.

Crochet for Beginners (Fall 2024)

Crochet has been around for centuries and is still one of the most popular yarn crafts today. It is a method of creating a looped fabric from yarn with a crochet hook.  Crochet is a fun, relaxing hobby that anyone can do! In this class students will learn the basics of crochet which include learning the 6 basic crochet stitches; chain stitch, slip stitch, single crochet, half double crochet, double crochet, triple crochet, how to make a magic circle and how to read a crochet pattern.  It’s not difficult to learn how to crochet, but it can be a little tricky in the beginning. Like learning any new skill, mastering crochet will take a fair bit of perseverance and patience.  Students will need to purchase the following:

Crochet Supply List (Please bring to class)

  1. Yarn – Medium yarn weight worsted-weight yarn, smooth texture and light in color  
  2. Crochet hook- size J
  3. Scissors- any size
  4. Darning needle – to weave in yarn tails when finished
  5. Stitch maker- a small piece of yarn will work

  7. Folder / binder – to hold notes and patterns

Cherokee Twining (Fall 2024)

This hands-on class features a number of projects that will require a portable loom frame which we, the instructors will provide, and various fiber materials which you, the student will provide.

We recommend starting with conventional materials in your first project and after you’ve learned the basics, experiment with some of the more exotic materials and combinations in subsequent projects. A good example of a first project would be a 6″ x 8″ simple bag twined using 120 yards of 3mm cotton  macramé cord, at a cost of around $10.00 online. Choose 1 or more colors and bring them to the first class.
